Homely, friendly staff. Peaceful country surroundings with fabulous views. Excellent food (exceptionally good breakfast!) Can't think how to beat it at the price.

Location, easy reach from Stroud, very kind and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere and quiet surroundings.

The room was comfortable but a chair was missing for me.

Stayed in the cottage attached which was beautiful. Staff were fab, breakfast was lovely! Location was amazing! Feather pillows and duvets!!!

The Bin wasn't emptied and as there was only one it was a little annoying.

Inn is situated in beautiful countryside , and is quiet and peaceful. There are many interesting places within a 30 mile radius, including Bath,Tiverton.and Cirencester. in the village itself, there are pleasant walks. The atmosphere inside was welcoming and the hostess is exactly as a guesthouse hostess should be.The room we had , room 2 was very nice with a beautiful view and a comfortable bed. There was a flatscreen tv and tea and coffee making facilities, as well as en-suite facilities with fluffy towels, which were changed regularly. There was a good selection at breakfast with both hot and cold breakfasts.Available also are afternoon and cream teas, and lunch and evening menus. The Inn offers good value for money.

We enjoyed our stay, and although children would be welcomed, It is my personal opinion, that some young people would not enjoy staying there as much.

Overall the hotel was very good, staff attentive.

Rooms at the top of the garden House are very small, and to get to them the stairs become very narrow and the elderly would have difficulty in carrying their cases up

The Amberley inn is a lovely place to stay, staff are very friendly and helpful. The views are amazing our room number 11 overlooked the valley, which was very relxing just to sit and look out of the window at. Breakfasts at the amberley are delicious and huge, you can have cereal, yoghurt and fruit to start and a full english with toast and preserves, with coffee, tea and juice. We didn't eat there in the evening, but im sure the food would have been equally as good as the breakfasts. There is a fine selection of local ales and beers and a good wine list too. Overall this is a wonderful place to stay and a good base to explore the surrounding villages and towns. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this to family or friends and to anyone looking for a nice relax in the countryside.

    Nothing to complain about!!

Welcoming atmosphere. All staff very obliging & friendly- taking lead from very Sally the manager. Fabluous views & great to see cows wandering past under the window.

It is a 2 star inn so shouldn't have expected things like a hairdrier in the room and a power shower... But I did struggle just having a bath!

Very friendly, relaxing, beautiful countryside, lovely food. Will definitely be back.

I found it easy to access as I had a car. Not sure how you would get to it without. I presume a bus might go passed it or an easy taxi ride from the station.

    Good location. Friendly staff.

On the day we visited the proprietor was away and the hotel, bar and restaurant were full. The staff, though very sweet, were like the 6th form doing work experience - willing but very inexperienced. We were dismayed when we saw our room, a tiny garret in 'the cottage' where you could hear other guests through the floor and the deafening sound of the plumbing system when anyone had a shower. We asked the person left if charge for a change of room but the hotel was packed. They did help us find another place to stay and dealt with our complaints politely and willingly even though they were run off their feet. The management should note: you can't charge £86 a night for a small, very basic room. Even in wedding season when every room in Gloucestershire is taken, it's bad practice.

staff and food were excellent, thats were the good points end. we booked a superior room and were given a standard room , all other rooms were fully booked. after travelling a long way after work and expecting a little luxury , we were very disapointed, it was too late to find a nother hotel so had to put up with the room after arranging a new price . another plus point great view. the bed was hard the bath room too small and no bath . was very noisy on friday night no chance of a restfull night .faulty towers comes to mind

The View from the restaurant is good.

The "King-size Jacobean four-poster bed" is very small. The room is very cold and not cleaned well. We could use hot water before 7pm, after that we couldn't use any hot water. The room has a TV. But it doesn't work because there is no tuner. Booked.net says "Wi-Fi is available in the entire hotel.", but we could not use Wi-Fi in the room.

Hotel staff was excellent, beautiful views.

It was one of the friendliest hotels that we have stayed in, with all of the staff very warm and polite, but the landlady especially kind and helpful. Not intrusive, but it had a very personal feel that you do not often get in the larger or corporate hotels. We had a lovely pint by the fire after our arrival, a peaceful night's sleep, and then a really delicious and big breakfast the next morning. The hotel is in a very pretty setting (and great for a walk to burn off the breakfast!) and the hotel itself is comfy and with a bit of character. On our last morning we overslept (having been at a wedding) and when we ventured delicately downstairs the landlady and chef had kept breakfast at the ready (despite the fact that we had missed it by a good hour) and when we were a bit on the fragile side to eat it we were packed off with a little take away...definitely above and beyond the usual hotel experience.

Friendly staff; comfortable bed; freshly cooked breakfast; lunch sandwiches available to take away.

No iron available; noisy room cos of machine outside; not properly cleaned; bottom of drawer missing; foot of heater broken; not enough electrical sockets.

Location is excellent, although very close to the road and school with noisy mid week mornings! There have been some improvements since our previous stay in spring 2010 under previous ownership. Staff attidudes and service are so much better, but we were lead to believe that the place had been transformed under current management but clearly there is still somewhere to go. We did not see or engage with owner managers during our stay (as far as we know). Our room had dirty cobwebs in the bottom corners of the feature windows, bad stains on the carpeting and the power points were insufficient for modern day needs. The shower mixers were either piping hot or freezing cold (to arrange in between was difficult and time consuming). The quality of furnishing throughout is still generally poor and whilst not lacking in character for a house like this, you do not expect threadbare carpets and peeling paint/paperwork as can be found in and around the first floor landing and cloakroom. The bar seems to attract the same local trade from regulars rather than residential trade and the atmosphere is akin to an owners, friends of owners and locals pub, rather than visitors and guests in conversation.......as you would expect in a location such as Amberley. On the plus side, the customer contact staff on reception, in the bar and at breakfast are very welcoming and friendly, without which we would not return. We shall return but would hope that all previous resemblance to "Fawlty Towers" has long gone by then, the much needed refurb work has been completed, and simple things like replacing loo rolls are part and parcel of daily room servicing.
